Meet Dr. Walt and Dr. Jana Franke
The Frankes moved to the Frankfort area 13 years ago. Dr. Jana relocated from Pickford, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, while Dr. Walt arrived from the Detroit area. Their affection for the community is evident when they describe how they chose it: “We came here for a weekend getaway and fell in love with the area and were fortunate to be able to find a practice at the time.” Their dental office has a rich history as the oldest one still active in Benzie County. It was started by Dr. Pate in the 1930s, and was subsequently taken over by Dr. Manz in the 1980s before Dr. Bieszka ran it in the late 80s and early 1990s. The Frankes bought the practice in 1994 and relocated it to a new facility in 1996. Since then, they have striven to provide their patients with the ultimate dental experience. With a family atmosphere, highly educated and extensively trained employees, and the latest in dental technology, our goal is to give our patients the ideal smiles they ask for and deserve.
Both Franke spouses take pride in their educational backgrounds. Dr. Jana is a graduate of the University of Detroit School of Dentistry, where she received a DDS in 1991. Dr. Walt graduated in 1996 from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, also with a DDS. Since the two come from separate educational backgrounds and have undergone different experiences, there are always second opinions available right in the office for the benefit of our patients. Dr. Walt has been practicing cosmetic dentistry since graduation, and Dr. Jana also performs a variety of aesthetic procedures. From tooth-colored fillings to porcelain veneers, both doctors are well versed in a variety of cosmetic treatments. They also perform many preventive and restorative procedures and can, when it best serves the patient’s oral health, refer certain cases to a network of outside specialists.
Both doctors are members in good standing of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, and the Resort District Dental Association. In addition, they and their staff have taken and continue to take numerous continuing education classes in a variety of subjects in dentistry. These activities and associations help keep them abreast of any new developments in dental care.
The Frankes also have a variety of outside interests. Dr. Jana enjoys running and downhill skiing; Dr. Walt also likes to ski in between his highly-competitive hockey games. With four children ages 2, 4, 6 and 7, their lives center on their family. There’s not much time for anything else, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Amenities
At Franke Family Dentistry, we believe that patient comfort during treatment is a major component of patient satisfaction. That conviction has led us to equip our practice with a number of amenities, both low and high tech. Blankets and hot towels are available to help keep you comfortable and relaxed. We also offer aromatherapy, a deeply soothing method of using scented oils to calm the mind and create a pleasant atmosphere. Our mp3 players are stocked with a range of musical styles for patients to choose from, or they may bring their own machines in. Perhaps most impressive, though, are the chairs in our treatment rooms, which contain automatic heating and massage devices that you’d be thrilled to have in your own living room. Lastly, we have a selection of complementary snacks and drinks for our patients to enjoy while they wait for their treatments. We understand that a trip to the dentist has not historically been something to look forward to, but we hope to change that with our dedication to giving our patients small but important comforts wherever possible.
Financing
While dental insurance plans can significantly reduce the cost dental work that is necessary for health reasons, they usually do not cover elective cosmetic procedures. One way to ease the financial burden of these treatments is through financing. Our office is happy to offer our patients access to CareCredit® financing plans, which are easy to apply for and allow the patient to make monthly payments with low or even zero interest. These third-party loans give patients the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a new smile much sooner than would otherwise be possible.
